Georg Lukics was probably the first author to use the concept of romantic anticapitalism; the term appeared in his writings during the 1930s. Although he never developed a systematic definition of it, some elements are implicit in his philosophical and literary works. Luktcs perceived romanticism not as an aesthetic or literary category but as a broad cultural configuration, present in politics, philosophy, sociology, political economy, and religion as well as in art and literature.
