The essence of this dissertation was to reflect on the process of integration of the black people recently free from the condition of enslaved in the city of Uberabinha/ Uberlândia MG. in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. That is, the spaces of leisure, work and education that they attended or were -allowed‖ to attend. Our intention was to investigate how these individuals were presented in the local press through newspapers, magazines and photographs.Material that, in the great majority, had its publication and selection organized by the local elite. We tried to understand the role of the black population within a proud city, which was said to be willing to leverage progress, making the city and its population modern at all costs. We know that education has had significant attention of the republican leaders and was considered one of the fundamental factors for the new regime to be consolidated. So, it is necessary to ask which speeches and projects inclusion or segregation were destined to Uberlândia society's black people for the "good of the Nation
