In the world of football women have always played a marginal role and this is still true today. Why have women had to overcome so many obstacles just because they wished to play football? Were women football players living in socialist systems confronted with the same problems as like-minded women in capitalist systems? These are the questions that will be answered here, using the development of women's football in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic as an example
