Existing iconoiogies and founding theories of the Ionic architectural capital are not representative of the ecology of those artifacts. A model for formulating the ecology of the artifacts, based upon an ecosystemic approach to architectural history, is introduced. This model may serve as a framework for constructing an iconology of the artifacts in question, as well as a founding theory which has more probability than existing theories, and may find wider application in the re-assessment of the founding phase of Hellenic architecture, as well as other architectural systems
