I argue that theory, whatever our methodological framework, is our greatest need; still, the advantages of science are expounded. I see geography as a set of exciting and important theoretical questions that have barely been tackled and hope that my description of the field provides a unified framework for seemingly disparate parts of geography. I suggest that a somewhat more structured institutional research strategy may be needed to advance the field
