An algebraic model of agricultural product and land markets, based on the economics of forces contained in the von Thünen rent diagram, shows the equivalence of the land rent theories of von Thünen and Ricardo. In this model, as in the generalized Richardian model, supply shifts may increase or decrease the total rent bill, and demand shifts unambiguously increase it, but rent per acre on land already cultivated must decrease as the result of supply increases
