Don't we now need a literature of blood and a literature of tears more than works which are “stately and graceful” or which “sing to the wind and moan to the moon”? To be sure, “stately and graceful” and “moan to the moon” works can comfort our troubled souls and frustrated spirits with the beauty of nature. But in this world overgrown with thorns, full of tragedy, where rifles bark and cannons fire, I'm afraid our disturbed souls and frustrated spirits are not things which can be so easily comforted. And how are we to put up with the comforting? Satan's arrows day by day are shooting down our brethren, and the god of war intones his war cry ceaselessly. The gunfire at Wuchang, rifle muzzles on the passenger coaches at the Xiaogan railway station, the bloodstains outside the Xinhua gate ... have we forgotten? Even a heartless person would find it hard to forget! Even people with blood frozen solid would find it hard to forget! Shall we be “stately and graceful”? I'm afraid that's impossible
