∗ This survey is based, in large part, on a 1973 report entitled Laporan Penelitian Tentang Strategi Pembangunan Daerah Untuh Propinsi Bali [Research Report on Regional Development Strategy for the Province of Bali] in 3 volumes, prepared by members of Udayana University, Denpasar.
