Proof of such uncertainty is offered by the recently published Acronyms Dictionary: First Edition, an alphabetical listing of more than two hundred pages, ranging from A (for Army) to ZTO (for Zone Transportation Office).' The introduction to this reference volume, after reviewing research previously published on the historical background and development of the acronym, strikes an early note of caution
