Yquem or the Birth of a Great Vintage Bordeaux Wine. A great vintage wine of the Sauternes region, world renowned, the Yquem chateau owes its very progressive elaboration, since the 17th century, to the presence of exceptional land and to the action of two very dynamic families, the Sauvage and the Lur Saluces. Its rise began really only at the beginning of the 19th century when Françoise-Joséphine de Sauvage, countess of Lur Saluces, assured the administration of the domain. With the help of her steward Garros, she succeeded in enlarging her patrimony, imposing late grape harvests and, above all, limiting production. The method of wine ageing and the setting up of more and more efficient methods of commerce allowed the diffusion of chateau d'Yquem in all of Europe ; and at the time of the 1855 classing, it was recognized as « premier grand cru supérieur ». of exceptional land and to the action of two very dynamic families, the Sauvage and the Lur Saluces.
