The contemporary Occitan movement researches for its ancestors in regional history. The wine-growers' movements of 1907 can appear, at first glance, as the precursors of present-day autonomist claims. The study of mentalities such as are revealed in administrative reports and newspapers does not allow one to establish in Languedoc before 1914, a real desire to call into question the French state. The rare demonstrations of regionalism come from and are not found on the political scene
