A sad loss to the world of Australian Literature was the death in August 1981 of Walter Stone, O.A.M., noted bibliographer, publisher, printer, and book collector. Walter Stone was one of the pioneers, possibly the main one after Morris Miller, of modern bibliography in the Australian field. He is to be honoured for his own publications and for those he inspired and published. Among the former are his checklist of Henry Lawson's contributions to the Bulletin, 1887-1924, his annotated bibliography of Joseph Furphy. and with Hugh Anderson, a bibliography of Brennan. These were all published in Walter Stone's invaluable series "Studies in Australian Bibliography and Studies in Pacific History" which provides one of the main bibliographical aids to Australian studies
