IntroductionAs part of the twenty-fifth anniversary celebration of the Canadian Reviewof American Studies, the editors are pleased to present the fourth in a seriesof interviews of former editors, presidents, and founding members of theCanadian Association of American studies (CAAS). In the following inter-view, Virginia Rock, now retired from York University, reflects on her edu-cation in English and American Studies in the 1940s and 1950s and on hercareer in teaching in Canada and the United States. She conveys her im-pressions of the two years she spent teaching at Jagialonian University inKrakow, 1962-64, and she relates some of the early history of CanadianAssociation for American Studies. She continues to be active in the affairs ofthe association
