This article examines the movement of Caribbean East Indians from the plantations of the Caribbean to North American and European metropolitan centers. Despite the paucity of literature on Indo-Caribbean migration, the article shows that sinceEast Indians entered the Caribbean in 1838, migration has been an integral and a continuous aspect of their lives. The process was not smooth sailing, but, arguably, many have moved from the periphery to the core. The article concludes that migration continues to provide an outlet for Caribbean East Indians not only to escapeexploitation, discrimination, marginalization, and poverty, but also to achieve socio-economic mobility
