QUITE recently, in casual conversation, I heard a South Somerset acquaintance exclaim, by way of denoting something unattainable, 'Not for gold or silver or all the world's wealth!' This exclamation interested me very much because it is a direct quotation from an old song called The Open Grave which was still being sung in the county in my childhood, but which I have not heard during the intervening years. It ran as follows
