In the years 1665-1675 the Parlement of Brittany repeatedly quarreled with Louis XIV and Colbert. The members of this hostile Parlement hoped to thwart Colbert's projected reform of the French judiciary in order to preserve their investments in court offices, which they had purchased or inherited.
