A PLAN for the higher education of young men and women as different as that inaugurated in the College of the University of Chicago stimulates the asking of many questions and the setting of many problems for investigation. One interesting question concerns a comparison of the characteristics of students under the old plan and the new plan. Are the more recently matriculated students-the new plan was begun in I93i-markedly different from those who entered under the earlier regime? If inquiry shows that there is no noticeable difference, a real advantage exists for the controlled study of outcomes of the new plan. At least one might then say that results of the new departure are not due to a radically different student body. As one section of a detailed study of changes occurring under the new plan in the College of the University of Chicago, the writer investigated certain characteristics of old-plan and new-plan students.'
