A further description of this innovative Lincoln Hospital program. Staffed by indigenous nonprofessionals, the hospital's neighborhood service centers have become far more than information and referral units. They give direct and immediate assistance to people in crisis, coordinate services provided to a single family by a number of diverse agencies, act as a base from which new patterns and types of service are emerging, and contribute to the development of a more competent community by stimulating and supporting neighborhood self-help and community action projects
