An experimental home care program for schizophrenics utilizing public health nursing practices and psychoactive drugs indicated that hospitalization of more than three-fourths was prevented during the 30 months of the study in contrast to only one-third in a placebo control group. Significant savings in total days of hospitalization also were observed
