The educational and work experiences and interests of educated married women who applied to a university career counseling center are described. Approximately one-third of the women suffered from mild to moderate depression related to career disruptions, lack of geographic stability, and role conflict. A moderately depressed cohort was followed for four months, at the end of which nearly all had made career plans. It is suggested that counseling centers may provide valuable emotional and social support during a period of transition
