The abnormal eating habits of obese and anorectic children and adolescents have been interpreted in the past as substitute solutions for various emotional and social conflicts. This study deals with the questions of how a bodily need becomes symbolically represented in a falsified way, as a result of confusing communication and interaction in a disturbed family group
