The operant procedure TRACCOM was used to perform the experimental analysis of a brief psychotherapy relationship between a psychiatrist and his patient. Though the operant responding of both paralleled their subjective evaluations of the relationship, the therapist also showed dramatic changes in operant behavior following the suicide of a psychiatric resident supervisee
