In a study on use of allied health personnel to expand pediatric manpower, pediatric aides who submitted a behavioral questionnaire to parents of 2,022 apparently well children had difficulties in dealing with parents who reported problems. Psychiatric social workers were introduced into the program, and response of both parents and pediatricians to their services was favorable. Results indicate that psychiatric social workers can improve the quality and quantity of child care in a pediatrics department
