Issues confronting the traditionally-trained psychotherapist who is working with a Puerto Rican population are considered, with a focus on the functional relationship of Puerto Rican espiritismo and mainstream psychotherapy. An attempt is made to provide a therapeutic framework for the mental health clinician working within both cultural systems
