Forty-two treated and 29 untreated psychotic children were followed for 4 to 12 years. Findings indicate that childhood psychosis results in ultimate intellectual deficit, which can be only partially prevented by treatment. Changes in the clinical form of childhood psychosis appear to occur on a maturational basis in the less severely ill children irrespective of therapeutic procedures
