After an arduous and protracted illness, Renato Constantino (humanist, anti-japanese resistance fighter, paramount social scientist of his nation, teacher, and journalist extraordinaire) has tragically departed from our lives. He was a shaft of dazzling analytical light, of generosity combined with a compulsive desire to write and to persuade but never to coerce. His decades-long writing and struggles against imperialism remain his lasting testament to humanity. He enriched his friends, and thousands of readers and students in the Philippines and elsewhere, who had the privilege of being enlightened by him. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website
