Excavation of tipi rings in southeastern Colorado by .Colorado College over three field seasons has provided archaeological evidence that these tipi rings were left by prehistoric Apache people who inhabited the area as early as A.D. 1350±55 years. A review of the ethnographic and historic literature supports the artifactual evidence which links some tipi rings to the Apaches specifically, while the period of occupation is indicated by Pueblo pottery and a radiocarbon date
