In January of 1987 human skeletal remains were recovered from site 32EM128 along the shoreline of Lake Oahe in Emmons County, North Dakota. The skull of an adult female displayed a large circular opening on the left parietal. The phy ical appearance of this opening is suggestive of a traumatic origin, possibly trephination. These remains have since be n reinterred making it impossible to verify the culture-historic position of this individual and to further explore the nature of this apparent lesion
