The Paul Rowe Archaeological Collection contains artifacts and faunal remains from over 200 Central Plains, Woodland, and Archaic sites in southwestern Iowa. The portion of the collection at the Office of the State Archaeologist in Iowa City contains nearly 28,000 specimens. Current work is making the collection accessible for research. Specific objectives are to: (1) clean and stabilize the specimens; (2) organize the collection by Rowe-assigned site designations and complete preliminary catalog sheets; (3) ascertain the specific sites from which collections derive, by field checking wherever possible; (4) conduct final cataloging and add the collection to the State Archaeological Repository; and (5) assess the condition of Rowe Collection materials housed at the Mills County Historical Museum and recommend collection management priorities
