An exploration of the dialectical processes through which the ideologies of rhetorical movements are delineated, revised, and transformed generates distinctive conclusions about the character of “Old Feminist” rhetoric. This analysis provides a framework through which the meaning of a key episode in the development of the movement, the 1860 “Divorce Debate,” can be determined
