The analysis of the epigraphical, literary and archaeological evidences lead to a better understanding of the cult of Hera at Perachora in 8th - 6th centuries B.C. The cultic functions examined (the relation with the sea and the navigation ; the protection of the women, of the fertility and of the new generations ; the oracular function) underline the chthonic characterization of the goddess and her role in the initiation rites
