Diodorus and the history of Republican Sicily. Diodorus of Sicily draws Sicilian history during the Republican period in a very narrative way, focusing on military and diplomatic events. It is hard to assess how much the Byzantine anthologies which let us know these historical fragments have reduced the original Diodorean text. This one emphasizes geography and distinctive identity of the cities. It remains irreplaceable to understand some episodes concerning Pyrrhus, Hiero of Syracuse or the servile revolts of the IInd century
