There still remain questions of authorship and date of a number of literary works of the Cretan Renaissance Rhyme is an important element of their composition, and a recent study of the rhyme of the play The Sacrifice of Abraham has already led to new understanding of the style of its author in this paper, analysis of the phonology and morphology of the rhyme of the romance Erotokritos provides additional data for comparison of the two works and renewed discussion of the hypothesis of their common authorship and the question of their relative dating. An equally, if not more, significant result of the present analysis, however, is the light it sheds upon the author's adaptation of the rhyme to the internal structure of his work, thus providing much more precise knowledge of his style of composition The quantitative results indicate that a closer look at the texts is essential This tine of analysis is being continued by the author
