Examples of turned-pottery of Mediterranean production have been discovered at the Sahelian site of Tegdaoust-Awdaghost in Eastern Mauritania. Among them are oil-lamps, classified here in thirteen «types» according to date from the end of the eighth century to the beginning of the thirteenth. The archaeological findings are rare : nevertheless one can say that the oldest lamps are from eastern mediterranean origin and, lacking other evidences, that the majority come from unclassified sites or sites for which colour of the clay suggest a common regional origin, not excluding several producing workshops for the lamps with «hull-shaped» reserves which could have been made at Sidjilmassa and nearly, which is to say all the closer to the Bilad as-Sudan
