This reappraisal examines the second edition of Michael R. Marrus and Robert O. Paxton’s study of the persecution of Jews in France, Vichy France and the Jews, which first appeared in French and English in 1981. It comments on the reception of the first edition, evaluates the second edition in light of the historiography of the intervening years, and suggests directions for future research
