This is a major accomplishment by two brilliant luminaries in the field. This book starts off from strategic issues in collective decision making, and then moves on to mainstream political economy themes of elections and legislative bargaining. The style is rigorous and theorists are likely to find this an attractive book to read. Casual readers hoping to get a quick primer on political economy may find this book unsuitable. This is because the application and discussion sections while well written are only useful if you have already laboured through the formal sections or have a good working knowledge of the area. In my view losing a (potentially) wider readership is a pity as what is presented embodies a growing and influential area of research. I will first describe the contents briefly and elaborate on a few chapters which best contribute to our understanding of the substantive questions (and progress) in political economy
