Sternberg's cornmentary on my article, contains many points with which I agree. For instance, Sternberg is right that I do not wish to conflate the ability to think rationally with the disposition to do so and that the use of the term inability in my definition invited such a conflation. Likewise, I certainly agree with Sternberg that the concept of rationality is in the early stages of operationalization and theoretical development. Nevertheless, I think that Sternberg goes too far in arguing that there exist no operationalizations or theory of the concept. Here he is giving very short shrift to the progressive research programs of scholars such as Nisbett, Baron, Kahneman, Tversky, Evans, Wason, Dawes, Fischhoff, Hogarth, Kuhn, and others (see original article for citations). Likewise, he gives very little credit to the growing body of theoretical work on rational behavior and decision exemplified in the contributions of scholars such as Baron, Nozick, Kahneman, Perkins, Cheng, Cherniak, Harman, Friedrich, Arkes, and Goldman
