There has been a resurgence in scholarship on the history of internationalism in recent years. This volume about the history of the Union of International Associations (UIA), edited by Daniel Laqua, Wouter Van Acker and Christophe Verbruggen, both draws on existing approaches to the field of internationalism while also opening up new approaches to the topic. The UIA was established in Brussels in 1910 to document the diverse work being undertaken by international bodies as well as orchestrating a wide range of international activities itself. As the editors note in their introduction, the UIA was important as it had a dual identity as both ‘an information hub on international organizations while constituting an INGO [International Non-Governmental Organisation] in its own right’ (p. 2). Despite many transformations and challenges throughout the twentieth century, the UIA is still in existence today and, because of its many connections to other international bodies and movements, this multi-disciplinary history sheds much light on the wider world of international organisation in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries
