This is a relatively short book, intended primarily for use in the classroom. The authors, Rachel A. May, Alejandro Schneider and Roberto González Arana, offer a synthetic overview of revolutionary movements in five different national contexts. The book is written in an accessible style and each chapter follows a common pattern, with attention to the changing structure, ideology and mobilisation strategies of several revolutionary groups across five countries, thus allowing comparison across cases. Each chapter concludes with suggestions for further reading and a list of recommended films, documentaries and websites. The revolutionary movements in the different countries examined—Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia and Puerto Rico—have been the object of extensive study. However, while Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua are often explored together and their experiences form the basis for comparison, they are rarely paired with Colombia and Puerto Rico. This is an original aspect of the book, but it is also a puzzling one
