The Socialist Party, founded in 1885 with the title of the Belgian Workers Party, at first rallied around the clandestine press, the Socialists having been the first to establish underground newspapers-the Monde du Travail (The World of Labor) at Liege and the Clandestin at Brussels, both in the middle of July 1940. In August 1940 the editors of these newspapers in company with their Flemish colleagues decided to re-establish regional branches of the party under the title of Parti Socialiste Belge.
