The Sierra Club was organized in San Francisco, in I892, in the early days of the forestry movement. Its main purposes were aid in that movement, and, as its articles of incorporation express it, to explore, enjoy, and render accessible the mountain regions of the Pacific Coast, publish authentic information concerning them; enlist the support and co-operation of the people and the government in preserving the forests and other natural features of the Sierra Nevada Mountains
