T RADITIONALLY, Canadian politics have been governed by the twoparty system, and the two historic parties, Conservative on the one hand and Liberal on the other, have shown many of the traits which have marked the two historic parties of the United States, the Republican and the Democratic. Both are great, nation-wide, easy-going, omnibus vehicles whose occupants often have difficulty in recognizing their fellow passengers or in understanding why the driver of the bus let them in.
