This is the fourth and latest book in the excellent series ‘Il Rinascimento Italiano in Europa’ comprising an impressive 12 volumes, which is intended to provide the reader with an innovative view of the Italian Renaissance, seen as a fundamental event in European history and, as such, analysed over a broad spectrum in its interaction with other areas of the Continent. This work, which avails itself of the collaboration of internationally renowned academics, intends to combine an updated historiographical summary with the exploration of new perspectives for research. This fourth volume is dedicated to ‘Trade and Merchant Culture’ and is divided into four sections. The first section comprises three essays that provide a general overview (S.R. Epstein, T.
