The article analyzes Ilija Trojanow’s critical engagement with capitalist globalization and its imaginaries in his collection of reportages Der entfesselte Globus (2008; The Unleashed Globe). Trojanow’s critique is animated by his interest in the idea of diversity that he understands and uses in normative and descriptive ways. But his literary world-making is also characterized by an attempt to understand a globalizing world with respect to diverse human and non-human temporalities and relations between humans and animals. His reportages thus articulate, if only marginally, a planetary knowledge that seeks to capture life on a globalized planet beyond the solely human realm to which global imaginaries largely limit themselves. The article demonstrates how such literary knowledge emerges not just from Trojanow’s interest in diversity, but also from his practice of literary reportage and his understanding of reportage as a genre
