Kalivoda, Communication in the Foreign Language Classroom, Hispania, 59, No. 2 (May 1976), 294-301. 2The familiar singular command is used to allow for using the Audio-Motor strategy with students yet to have learned the more complex formal command structure of both singular and plural regular verbs (e.g., coma-coman) and irregular verbs (e.g., ponga-pongan). Being identical to third person singular forms of a verb, regular familiar commands in the singular require no learning of new forms. It should be made clear to students, however, that during group practice they should always interpret the commands as directed to them personally as single individuals rather than as to a collective
