Literary critics and historians have generally viewed Emilia Pardo Bazin in relation to the movement of Naturalism, and their preoccupation with establishing the affinity of her writing to the French Naturalistic novel has resulted in an unfortunate neglect of her as a stylist and a descriptive artist.
