In referring to Octavio Paz in an article concerning contemporary Mexican poetry, All Chumacero has pointed out that el poeta ha profundizado hasta llegar al limite.' He has also stated in another article that Paz has arrived at the conclusion that poesia es algo mas que un prop6sito personal y una creaci6n del poeta, pues lo abarca todo, desde una mirada hasta una concepci6n politica de la sociedad, sus poemas han sentado plaza de desconcertantes.'2 These observations on the part of Ali Chumacero give one an indication of the scope and depth of Octavio Paz's creative works and they are also indicative of the fact that Paz is an ambitious poet who has dealt with many of the numerous individual and social problems that exist in the world today.
