A lady, aged 34, subject to asthma for the last fourteen years, was seized with a paroxysm on 17th Nov. 1829-Three hours afterwards, when I first saw her, there was great dyspnoea, wheez- tightness of the chest, and palpitation, but without expectora- tion. The face was livid, the countenance anxious, the pulse 120, and there appeared great danger of immediate suffocation.A drachm of the tinctura lobeliaj inflatae, with half an ounce of water, was given, which produced a copious discharge of viscid mucus from the bronchial vessels, with great and immediate relief to the symptoms. She soon after fell asleep, which continued five hours, and awoke, weak and exhausted, but with no difficulty of breathing- Next day, there was no paroxysm, although she expected one.The following, there was a slight return, but this was soon removed by the medicine, which emptied the stomach, as well as cleared the bronchial cells. After this, she became quite well, and declared that she had got much sooner quit of her disease than she had evei done'at any former period.2. A gentleman, aged 47, was seized, at one o'clock morning, with a paroxysm of asthma. At four o'clock, the dyspnoea was extreme, threatening instant suffocation ; the articulation was indistinct, and the face turgid; there was slight cough, unaccompanied with expec- toration, and the pulse was 114.The same quantity of the tincture
