It is a well-known fact that in the Rigveda those oblique cases o f the noun-class tana-.h whose endings had an initial vowel (e.g., acc. sg. tanv4tm, instr, tanv~-, abl.-gen, tanv41h, etc.) are prosodically trisyllabic: \[tan~-am, tang-d, tami-ah\], etc. There are in the Rigveda only five exceptions, none o f them in the family books proper (11 VII11 IX 1 X 2).
