Adam D. Moore's Privacy, security and accountability is an extremely timely compendium. As the title suggests, the contributors to the volume focus on a variety of issues concerning aspects of the privacy vs security debate. Deploying a diverse range of philosophical perspectives, the chapters provide a broad array of arguments on why or whether privacy may be more or less important than security and if the one may undermine the other. From the outset, the contributors emphasize that the debate is set in the context of a rapidly technologizing society. It is evident that, first and foremost, (western) democratic nations have embraced the advanced technologies and this is transforming how we, as citizens, view concepts such as privacy and security. The advances being made in surveillance technologies particularly have changed the type, quality and volume of data that are available for collection. New audiovisual technologies have increased the square footage of the world that can be surveilled, whether overtly or covertly, and all of this has affected and will continue to affect the way that we perceive privacy and security and consequently the rights and duties associated with those concepts
